The reader needs to know what you're saying and needs to be aware of the path that you are taking in the essay. You may decide to write a summary of each theory you have been discussing, or a short description of the historical or contemporary events you've been studying. Focus on clarity, conciseness, and understanding the differences between the theories. Keep asking yourself what your reader will need to know, and write about that. By now you should have identified the three arguments you find most compelling in defending your thesis. If you have a pretty clear idea about the sequence in which you want to present them, an outline might be most appropriate to you. If you have not yet determined how you'd like to sequence them, mapping might feel more appropriate.

Childrenââ¬â¢s Book Literary Agents In The US
Everyone loves a good childrenââ¬â¢s book. So, if this is the genre you write in, you are in great company. Whatââ¬â¢s more, the outlook is stable, and this is one of the most profitable genres if you get it right. When writing childrenââ¬â¢s books, itââ¬â¢s always a good idea to make sure you understand the genres and the needs of the publishers to know who will be most interested in your project. So, to begin with, letââ¬â¢s take a look at the different areas this genre covers. Childrenââ¬â¢s Book Literary Agents: Picture Books Picture books are as you would expect: they are stories where illustrations are a major component. Types of picture books include: Baby books for babies and younger toddlers. These are typically shorter in length. They may contain few or even no words at all. They can include nursery rhymes, fingerplays, and lullabies. Toddler books also fall under the umbrella of picture books and are typically less than 300 words. They are simple stories that are relevant to a toddlerââ¬â¢s daily routine or teach a certain concept. Pop-up books and board books are engaging formats, as are the ones that include textures, scents, or sounds (novelty books). Picture books are approximately 32 pages in length and typically targeted at children aged 4-8 years old. Early picture books are books geared toward children aged 4 or 5 years old. Think preschool age. Stories are typically less than 1,000 words. Board book format is still appropriate at this level. Easy readers for ages 6-8 years of age who are just beginning to read. These books include illustrations on each page like picture books, but can be up to 64 pages and have as many as 2000 words. Transition books are for kids 6-9 years of age. These are also called ââ¬Å"early chapter booksâ⬠and are used as a stepping stone from easy readers to chapter books. Chapter books are 45-60 manuscript pages. They have chapters 3 or 4 pages in length that end mid-scene to keep kids turning pages. Stories are meatier with more action. Middle Grade is often referred to as MG. It is is for aged 8-12 years old. Stories can be more complicated and stretch to 150 manuscript pages. Common genres appear at this level, and in fiction, this can be anything from science fiction/fantasy to historical, etc. Young Adult is commonly abbreviated as YA. These are books for ages 12 years and beyond. Manuscripts can be 200 pages in length. They have several major characters and more complex plots with themes that resonate with teenage struggles. Some YA themes can be targeted toward young adults ages 18-25 and will address social issues that may be inappropriate for some 12-14-year-olds. For this reason, there seems to be a trend toward YA targeted to ages 10-14 which may evolve into a separate category in the future. Lessons That Football Teaches Essay - 549 Words
Imagine being member of a football team on the field while the crowd is cheering for their favorite team. You are probably wondering, ââ¬Å"WOW, I never thought that I will be part of this team.â⬠Football is not for everyone and being part of a football team does not mean that you are going to be in the spotlight. A person can learn much from playing football. Football teaches strength, discipline, and how to be a team player. The most important lesson football teaches is how to be a team player. In football teamwork is the most important because each member is working to achieve the same goal, which is winning. Eachâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In addition to teamwork, football also teaches discipline. Discipline is the result of commitment, a love for the task, and passion for the game. These characteristics are usually enforced by infusing commitment , passion, and love for the task while growing up at a young age. Discipline in football controls your goals and accomplishments, which starts on the football field. When team players are disciplined it means that they know what they want (to win games) and they do it the best they know how by perfecting the basic skills, such as, tackling, running and blocking. Some examples of discipline are showing up to practice on time and knowing what job is expected of you on the football team. If you do not know, it can cause your team to lose games. Exercising throughout the year is another example because the playerââ¬â¢s body has to be in shape year round. Physical and mental strength plays a major role in a football playerââ¬â¢s life. Football is a twelve month process, which consists of off- season (six months), in -season (five months), and the Transition (one month). During off-season the football playerââ¬â¢s main goal is gaining strength, size, and much power, in-s eason they continue to practice and work on maintaining the gains in strength during the off-season, and the transition is when they rest and recuperate their body from the physical exercise. Fracking How It Affects The Environment - 1124 Words
Fracking: How It Affects The Environment? Concerns with the environment have recently been front and center in the United States. Especially with the pending presidential election, many environmental issues are at the forefront of countless conversations. There is a consensus between parties that domestic energy production must continue to increase, but there are conflicting opinions as to where that energy production should come from. Should we use non-renewable resources or invest in new and innovative renewable energy sources? Our dependency on foreign oil puts the U.S. in a very vulnerable position on both the political and economical fronts. Countless studies have been conducted supporting both arguments. While our environment is a major consideration for determining which sources to utilize, the economic implications must also be weighed. Renewable energy sources could last indefinitely, but will need to be repaired and/or replaced at some point. One alternative to renewable energy is a practice called ââ¬Å"F rackingâ⬠. Fracking is slang for hydraulic fracturing. It is commonly described as a technique used to release petroleum, natural gas (including shale gas, tight gas and coal seam gas), or other substances for extraction (Philippe Charlez, 1997). Business Model Innovation and Business Radical Innovation
Question: Discuss about the Business Model Innovation and Business Radical Innovation. Answer: Introduction The report of business planning is based group of hotel chains who have decided to merge with their business with other hotels to fight the pressure of market regarding the low priced hotels. The formation of the new chain is started as stay together for having thousands of hotels from every category around the world. It is associated with combating the sale of hotels through various popular websites like hotels.com booking.com etc. However, marketing to this popular websites is causing a reduced of the profit that the hotels game and thus it is draining out the corporate brand image of the popular hotels. They decided that bookings will be made on a single website only with the help of different mobile phone applications and the prices that will be fixed and kept the same with the peak pricing situation of the time. The business report is setting light on the customer loyalty scheme of stay together. The configuration of the kitchen and dining system with complimentary breakfast and buffet lunch is also a part of this report. Rebates, discounts and credits for the customers are attractive packages. Keeping in mind the significance of Corporate Social Responsibility, the hotel chain system stays together focuses on providing charity from their earned profit. The most important thing in this business is the information technology and the information system of the company. This technology is needed by the hotel chain system because the company has some hotels under them and they have to control all the chains and all the hotels which are not an easy job for the company. In that case, they form the strategic alliance by which they can control the business. The important things come under the strategic alliance is the Information Technology and the information system. These two things are most important because the information system is collecting or handling the data or the information of the business by which the company is getting the updates (Buhalis Law, 2008). The information technology is the technology which is controlling the information or the data of the company. The technologies are such as the internet, websites and the application. By the help of these, the company is not only getting the benefits of getting the updates of their own business but also the customers are getting benefits by getting the detail information of the company. By those applications, they can check the availability of the service or the rooms of the hotels. This system is made by the company because previously the companies use to take the help of the other online website to promote their business or for online booking but by the system, they are facing losses because they have to pay cut off money to the website company and that is hurting the margin of the company. So they decide to form an individual website by which they can promote their own business (Chan, 2011). Loyalty scheme It is necessary for the company to hold their customers and also to gain long-term customers for their business. In that case, the case should become satisfied with the product or the service of the company. On the other hand, the communication system of the company should be modified because communication is the most important part of any business. With the help of the communication system, the company use to create the business channel. The customer of the company always looks into the behaviour of the staffs towards the customer. If the behaviour or the presentation is perfect, then it will become easier for the company to gain the customer and to maintain the customer properly. If the customer is satisfied and they stick to the company for the long time that is called the loyalty of the customer. Now the loyalty is not a thing that the entire customer or the people will trust any companies blindly. For building up the trust, the company needs hard on their service and the product by which they can satisfy the customer (Faulkner, 2001). The company has to build an image among the customer by their service and the product so that the mind set up of the customer will become fixed towards the existing company. As the day will progress, the company has to innovate with new kinds of product and also to create new strategies. The innovation of the products will make the expectation level of the customer high by which they will wait for the product till it launches. On the other hand, the company has to develop new kind of strategies and ideas in all kind of departments. At first, the company has to build the plan regarding the product and its manufacturing (Goffman, 2009). The company must create a good plan regarding the product, the company should think about the advantages and the disadvantages of the product before creating. On the other hand, the company have to think about the newly product of the product. After manufacturing of the product, the company use to think about the promotion, advertisement and marketing of the product. The marketing plan is the vital plan because the company has to go think new concepts and way of marketing by which the customers will get attracted to the product. After marketing the company has to think about the price of the product, the company has to set the price of the product in minimum and also in a reasonable so it can become affordable to all kind of customer. After the launching of the product, the customer should become satisfies with the product. These all facts will lead a customer to become loyal towards the company (Hoque, 2013). Free buffet breakfast and dinner There are several companies which are developing themselves and going for new marketing strategies by which they are attracting the customers. Now the companies have to take the risk during the making and executing the marketing plan of the company. But here the base and subject of the business are hotel chain business then they have to make wise strategies during the time of their promotion and sales (Kimes, 2011). In todays world people are booking hotels and resorts by the whelp of the online sites or the application because it is giving them more access to the place and also assuring their bookings, but with the help of these applications or sites, the hotels are losing their profit margins. They have to pay a cut of the money to the online websites. Along with that, there are others issues that are that the website is not only promoting a particular hotel but also promoting several hotels in same regions. This is what the particular hotel is facing difficulties to promote their business. For these particular reasons, the hotels are making their websites and application by which the customer can easily access to their details and can easily book their hotels by their websites and application. The small hotel's chain business face difficulties to spread their business for that they use to choose to make their websites and applications by which they can promote themselves. On the other hand, t hey promote their business by the help of the social media apps where they can connect a lot of peoples (Mok, Sparks Kadampully, 2013). When the company is making marketing strategies that time the hotels use to set some attractive offers. When a small hotel business is opened that they can promote their business or give extra benefits to the customer is equal to promotion. The hotels use to give complimentary free buffet breakfast and the dinner for which they will not charge a single penny from the customer regarding the food. This is a great strategy by the hotels to promote their business in the ongoing trip. This is the new the modern concepts. They use to take this type of strategy because it is not possible for all hotels to invest huge money on advertising so they can create new concepts which will become more fruitful to the customers. This type of strategies and service use to create a good relation with the customers, and the customers become loyal to the company for its service. This transforms the temporary customer to the permanent customer (Molina-Azorn et al. 2015). Providing rebates to the customers is an essential decision of the management where they are striving to facilitate the customer's satisfaction and loyalty. On booking up for rooms and related services, the company provides special discounts for the customers on different plans and schemes. After the discount, the amount which is to be paid by the customer is the rebated amount. The chain of 10 hotels or stay together formation has come up to this decision to come back their market pressure and beat up small Hotel accommodations. It is very much important to value the customers and provide necessary services to gain customer loyalty. Once the customers are satisfied with the service as well as the price strategy, it is quite obvious that they will opt for the same service again and again (Noone, McGuire Rohlfs, 2011). Price is the most important issue that influences the financial condition of the customer. If the customer is willing to book a hotel, or plans to go for the recreational period, it may happen that his financial pursuits and not allowing him to think on it again. Therefore, keeping all such pros and cons in view, the management decides to facilitate the customers with special offers and discounts. These strategies not only benefit the company but also trigger the customers' desire in an economical way. For example, it can be assumed that to attract the middle-class customers it is necessary to compromise with the prices of hotels and complementary services. Throughout the vacations and the peak seasons, it is justifiable that the prices of hotels are fair enough to pay. However, if we talk about of seasons, the chain of hotels and their management has to formulate some strategies to attract customers in the offseason too (Pappas et al. 2009). There lies the capability of the management appropriate marketing strategies which has to be implied unimplemented on the existing customers as well as the new ones. People are much fascinated about the low-cost budget with high-quality service. Therefore, promoting the business with a view on the financial status and consideration gradually attracts more than an average number of customers (Shaw, Bailey Williams, 2011). Social responsibility Corporate social responsibility refers to the responsibility of the business organisations and corporate sectors towards the environment and the surrounding of their society. Referring to the situation here, the stay together formation is planning to provide the charity with their earned profit. There is a charity organisation that is in association with stay together and is facilitated with amounts considerable out of the profits earned by the chain of hotels. The hotels directly charge the amount of Charity from the customers. 10% of the amount of Bill that the customer is playing is taken as a donation to the charity. It is thus, an important and effective significance of forming the strategic alliance. Not only focusing on the profit and to combat the market pressure, but the alliance is also responsible enough towards the society and the well-being of the people (Souto, 2015). Conclusion The whole report focuses on the marketing strategy applied by the Chains of Hotel to attract more customers and combat the market pressure that they are facing in reality. However, there are lot more decisions to be made by the management. It is not only about facilitating the customer with customer loyalty schemes and approaches but also generating appropriate customer relationship. Keeping in mind the business view, earning the profit is the main motive but to attract a lot of customers, it is essential to implement some more marketing strategies. It is known that human resource management deals with the internal employees and stakeholders of the company. On the other hand, public relation management is the approach that will deal with the outer stakeholders of the businesses. The whole system of stay together has a great influence on the small market regions and has propagated with Charity considerations. Therefore it is necessary for the alliance to organise surveys for taking feedbacks from the customers. Customers are the main stakeholders for whom the business is being operated. Therefore, it is important to make good communication with them and serve them to the best possible way (Sparks Browning, 2011). Reference Buhalis, D., Law, R. (2008). Radon Essays (595 words) - Chemical Elements, Soil Contamination
Radon Radon is an element that is on the periodic table of elements. It is a member of the family called the noble gases, which is group number 18. Radon is a gas. It is a gas at 298 k. it is the heaviest known mononuclear gas at that temperature. Radon is also colorless. When it is cooled below the freezing point, radon exhibits a brilliant phosphorescence, which becomes yellow as the temperature is lowered. At the temperature of liquid air it is sort of an orangish-red. The noble gases can be found on the very right side of the periodic table of elements. Radon has been around for quite some time. Radon comes from the element radium, which is derived from the element uranium. After radium has been 1,620 days old, radon forms 3.8 days afterwards. Radon is most often produced by the decay of radium in the crust of the earth. Radon was first discovered by a man named Fredrich Ernst Dorn. Mr. Dorn discovered this element around 1898. At first radon was not called radon, it was called niton. Niton coming from the Latin word nitens, meaning shining. It was only called radon up until about 1923. Now, lets talk about the properties that radon has. It is element number 86 on the periodic table of elements. This means that is has 86 protons, and also 86 electrons in a neutral state. The atomic mass of radon is 222.0176. now if you take the atomic mass, and round it to the nearest whole number, and subtract the atomic number, then you have the number of neutrons in radon, which is 136. The density of radon at 293 degrees Kelvin is .00973 g/cm cubed. Radon has a boiling point of 211.4 degrees Kelvin. It is a nonmetal, but rather a gas. The melting point, which is different from the boiling point, is 202 degrees Kelvin. To my knowledge, there is no data on the oxidation numbers for the element radon. Also, I was unable to find any information on any major compounds. I guess radon isnt really all that popular. Oh well. Now, some things about radon, I bet you did not know. Radon is quite dangerous. It is mainly hazardous if you inhale it. Not only radon it dangerous, but also its decay products. Which are collected on dust in the air. Radon and its decays form in the air. When radon decays in the earths crust, they rise. This poses as a problem, because over the earths crust, sometimes, is housing, or businesses. Since radon is hazardous man has invented the radon alarm. This alarm can fit on the ceiling anywhere. This alarm detects radon, which without being detected can cause major problems. There are however some uses for radon. Radon is used in hospitals for treating some types of cancers. Another major use for radon is in earthquake detecting. Radon can detect earthquakes, go figure, all though im not too sure as to how this process is carried out, but apparently it works. It also has the occasional therapeutic uses. Some interesting things that I found about radon are the fact that there was absolutely no information on its oxidation numbers, or its major compounds. Another thing is that it can predict earthquakes. Now I found that to be a bit odd. I thought to my self, now how can a gas, predict an earthquake? Oh well, I guess its for the better that I did not know. Bibliography Microsoft Encarta '99 KEYWORD:radon www.webelements.com Science Essays

Learning a Second Language Essay Example
Learning a Second Language Essay Example Learning a Second Language Essay Learning a Second Language Essay Christie Butler November 11, 2011 CP150 Unit 15 Paper We as American students should learn a second language. The students would have a better chance of getting into a good school. The student should take up on another language if it is mandatory. Therefore, learning a second language could help students in future careers, students would get paid more if they know a second language, and students would be encouraged to learn more about the culture of that language. Students should learn another language because it could help in their future careers. In learning a second language students are set with tools and common sense to exceed in future careers (Rao, 2011). Students will benefit from using a second language in any type of career they choose. They also will be able to communicate that particular language in the work place. Also students will be able to use the language in everyday life. Students would likely get paid more if they know a second language. If students know the language of there choice they most likely be in a better position of getting hired. Students would have a better chance at higher pay if they know two languages. Knowing two languages may get into higher positions at their jobs. Lastly, students would be encouraged to learn more about the culture of that language. ââ¬Å"Students are clearly recognizing the importance of learning other languages as we become a more global societyâ⬠(Marklein, 2003). Students may have family members that speak a different language. Also they could use that language to their advantage and travel the world for career opportunities. Then students would feel more confident and theyââ¬â¢ll know how important it is to learn languages. In conclusion, students would make better career choices, being able to get promotions if they know a second language, and having that confidence to be able to speak a second language makes learning it a bit easier. I also studied Spanish in my high school years which Iââ¬â¢m glad that I took, because it was not only a part of my culture, I was able to communicate to those that donââ¬â¢t know English. JPMorgan Chase Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
JPMorgan Chase - Essay Example Securities and Banks are also recognized as the most sensitive economic sectors which are on high risk of gambling due to multiple reasons such as increased internal money supply and violation of laws. Therefore they strongly require protection from agencies, for example, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). These agencies provide protection to Securities or Banks from gambling and fraud subsequently reducing the risk factor attached to them and also analyzes their overall operations and activities. This makes the role of these administrative agencies substantial so as to amplify the economic growth and development. To further explain this lets first consider the example of JP Morgan Chaseââ¬â¢s gambling case of summer 2012 (Gordon, 2012). JP Morgan Chase is the leading bank of United States of America; the bankââ¬â¢s Chief Investment Office (CIO) declared a loss of $5.8 in summer 2012. The reasons put forward by the bank w ere concerning inappropriate investment decisions. In order to conceal the gambling case, the top management provided falsified reports of the yearââ¬â¢s first quarter to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). ... On the other hand Chief Investment Officer, Ina Drew, watched over the responsibility of loss to the trading group. He left the bank soon after this event occurred. SEC along with FBI investigated the trading loss at the biggest bank of US with respect to assets (Gordon, 2012). Elements of a Valid Contract Contract is broadly defined as an official agreement between two parties which is then used by the court in order to make judgments. Generally contracts need to follow certain requirements so as to acquire validity and authenticity only after which they can be used by the court. Following are the main components of a Valid Contract (Laurence, 2013): Offer: It is the initial most element of a contract. It is basically a form of promise between two parties which then transforms into an official contract. Acceptance: Offer is subsequently followed by an acceptance from another party to whom the offer is made. The acceptance of an offer indicates that the other party has approved all t he rules and regulations presented in an offer. Consideration: One the offer is accepted then an exchange takes place between the two parties through consideration. In this case the other person gives something to the first person so as to verify the contract. Creating Legal Relations: Legal relations are created to establish consensus between two parties to legalize the contract so that its authenticity and validity increases. Certainty: It is yet another significant element of a valid contract which deems the rules and regulations stated in the contract. These should be clearly understood by both the parties. It includes details such as the time period of a particular contract. Capacity: Capacity defines the pre-requisites of entering into a contract. For instance,

Take-Home Exam - Term Paper Example In other words, shots must record what is in a scene for a successful video production to take place. For instance, the short scenes below are taken for the movie gossip girl. Establishing shot ââ¬â when an action is to take place in a hall, every area or point that would be used in the process of video production are covered first before the exact shooting begins. For instance, there is random aerial coverage of a city of investigation in the CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) Productions. Wide shot ââ¬â a boy standing leaning on the wall, and the shot reveals his feet almost close to the bottom of the frame and his head close to the top of the frame. The boyââ¬â¢s height appears to consume almost the whole of the width of the shot. Medium shot- a girl standing next to a window, her head can be seen, part of her arms, a small part of the window and that of the wall around. Her gestures can be seen though not clearly. More attention of the shot is on the girl more than the surrounding environment or the setting. Medium close-up ââ¬â the girl standing next to the window is brought out through a slightly sharp attention. The camera brings her out more clearly but still section of her arms, head and belly still visible. I would prefer to produce an action movie but with romantic scenes. The sources of my ideas would be the professionals in the movie production industry, newspapers and magazines, a collection of movies may be in a movie store. The available resources would also contribute significantly in determining the type of movie to produce. This is because it is important to match the depth of the available resources with the requirement of a particular genre of a movie. There are movies that are expensive to produce since they require many resources (Aronson, 2006). It involves the planning of the movie project in terms of creating

In Defence of Harry Flashman Essay Example for Free
In Defence of Harry Flashman Essay It is understandable why the first mention of the character of Harry Flashman ââ¬â the opportunistic philanderer of his Majestys service who lied and cheated his cowardly way through the Victorian pages of his fictional memoirs by George MacDonald Fraser ââ¬â is enough to deter the browsing lady, though far be it from anyone to say it should. Since patterns of book-buying snake across the sexes like a flailing sidewinder, it would be hopeless to say as to where on the shop shelf the hand might lay to rest. Nevertheless, for a series of stories far too overlooked for the publics common good, what could the otherwise fairer sex also find to appreciate in a man whose charm seems as fictitious as the women who fall for it? To put it more simply: can this man ââ¬â to borrow the blurb ââ¬â be all bad? If the name ââ¬Å"Flashmanâ⬠is shouting forward from the back of your mind, dare the ââ¬Å"Lord Flashheartâ⬠be named as the bothering heckler? Dont think him an unwanted associate, for Blackadders slavering womaniser could be seen as an exaggeration of the ââ¬Å"Flashman personaâ⬠and certainly close to what Harry himself may have become had he not, by hand and boot of queen and empire, been thrown into the Flemingesque scenarios he haphazardly emerged from, some the wiser and better-shaped. Unlike the all-consuming debauchery of his comedic counterpart, Harrys lechery is merely a tempered impetus; punctuating his desire for the English comforts that makes for the only form of patriotism youll see in him, if you can call it patriotism ââ¬â the patriotism of Bond it most certainly is not. What differs Harry from James is awareness, and when taking stock, the idiom trumps the ammo. It would be daft to credit Harrys decision making with the weighing of political consequence, however; that would be a laughable excuse; something he doesnt begin to admit. Its fear that has his mind running back to the jolly English riff-raff and the spread of beds that await. Though isnt to think with your legs the best strategy for the reporter? Reluctant maybe, Harry is a better reporter than he is a soldier. This cowardice kept him alive til a time when he could afford to admit the truth. Concerning the First Afghan War, the truth about a man, General Elphinestone who single-handedly stripped the meat from his ranks as he rung them through the Khord-Kabul pass on their retreat from Afghanistan. Long after witnessing rom on high, the massacre of the regiments from which he had high-tailed the night before, Flashman verbally guts he whom he declares ââ¬Å"No fate could be bad enough forâ⬠: ââ¬Å"I still state unhesitatingly, that for pure, vacillating stupidity, for superb incompetence to command, for ignorance combined with bad judgement in short for the true talent for catastrophe, Elphy outshines all as the greatest military idiot of our own or any other day Now what a sorry waste of insightful wit it would have been to have it lost amidst the idiot pride of a fellow more gallant than Harry. Elphinestone is not alone; Harry considers many of the figures he meets to be ââ¬â to varying degrees ââ¬â morons, despite his care to concede a grace here and there. Its no surprise that he met such a top-heavy pile of fools; he was, after all, involved in some of the worst disasters of British imperialism all the more reason to flee when he could. But you know the fastidious type. Perhaps youve a friend whom fits this description, in which case, youll understand how empowering it feels to have them praise you ââ¬â youre worth a cheer! When chance encounter pairs Harry with one he considers of rare dignity, you too, as the reader, hold them as praiseworthy, or rather, worthy of investigation. It was in 1842 when he jumped into the carriage of Lola Montez ââ¬â an Irish dancer girl turned adventuress of Europe whose life was spent ââ¬Å"playing with kingdomsâ⬠as one might romantically say. Her appearances in Royal Flash are glimpses; moments too brief to capture her entirety, yet he alludes to a life beyond the pages with so delicate a respect that one is inspired to follow. Whilst Harry never himself existed, he may as well have. Its very easy to speak of his personality as anything but fictional. Perhaps to no great surprise considering we get to know the fellow through his own confessions, worded not merely to the benefit of his own authenticity, either. The true blue honesty rubs off well onto those he brushes shoulders with. Its what we have to thank this bounder for ââ¬â dramatising without disfiguring a past of characters pallid to most today and enriching the pursuit of history for ourselves. Harry once said about the Earl of Cardigan, that some human faults are military virtues; for Harry, some human faults are literary virtues.

Fate in William Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet :: William Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet
If the Titanic did not bump into the iceberg, a tragedy could have been avoided. Why did Hitler get elected? Maybe then the holocaust could have been avoided. If a plane flight was cancelled on 9/11, we might have avoided the deaths of thousands. Why did Romeo meet Juliet in the first place? Could Tybalt and Mercutioââ¬â¢s deaths been avoided? Last but not least, why did Juliet wake up in time to see dying Romeo? What exactly ties all events together? Fate. In the beginning of the play it is told, ââ¬Å"A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life;â⬠(Prologue.6) this sentence indicates that from the very beginning the fate of Romeo and Juliet is written in the stars. Their fate was to fall in love and die with a passion in order to end their familyââ¬â¢s feud. Since their fate was bond in a silent promise it might be a reason for their meeting at the Capuletââ¬â¢s party. Romeo, who is broken-hearted, did not feel like joining Mercutio at all until seen Rosalineââ¬â¢s name upon the invitation list. The first meeting between Romeo and Juliet was a memorable one. The two lovers locked eyes and as if fate, fell head-over-heels in love with each other. Romeo forgot at once all about his once beloved Rosaline and Juliet abandoning her thoughts of marrying Paris. The lovers moved too fast and were too rash in their decision-making, but as fate would have itââ¬â¢s way and the two decided to marry right the next day. Right th e next morning Mercutio and Tybalt engage in a heated duel. When Romeo arrived on the scene he was still light-headed and giddy from just marrying Juliet and therefore causing him to be soft and loving towards Tybalt. As Mercutio and Tybalt fight a giddy Romeo runs to separate the fight and fate would yet again let Tybalt kill Mercutio as mainly an accident. Romeo been mad and angered due to the loss of his best friend jumps in and demands to fight Tybalt and slews Tybalt. The night before everything was fine but now Romeo is banished and Juliet is short of a cousin and a husband. Many of Romeoââ¬â¢s actions were rash and uncalled for but as a result to fate it all ties together to the beginning of Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s story. Halfway throughout the book fate unexpectedly twists the story to a darker note.

Discretionary Benefits
A company providing products and services needs its human resources for its operations and directions. This is why human resources practitioners are always looking for ways to make sure that employees are rewarded amply for their performance while at the same time ensuring that the status of the company finances is not jeopardized. The government protects the rights of employees for commensurate salary and compensation. This is why employees have the right to join a trade union and negotiate with employees about their salary and benefits. It is in the interest of businesses to deal with their employees in a fair and just manner. Otherwise, operations would be compromised. After all, an unhappy workforce would also lead to less productivity and efficiency. In addition to the government-sanctioned salary and compensation scheme, there are also discretionary benefits that the company will have to decide if they will provide to the employees.Employee BenefitsThe benefits of employees may vary from employer to employer. They are non-cash benefits that employees enjoy during their term with the company on top of their salaries or wages. The most common forms of benefits are group insurance for life, dental or health; disability income protection, daycare, sick leave, vacation leaves, retirement benefits, profit sharing, stock option, educational funding and tuition reimbursement among others. These benefits are either provided by the employer or they are paid for by the employer. Employers provide these benefits to make the employees more economically secure. There are also other benefits that are left to the discretion of the employers. This may include providing company car, leisure activities and outdoor meetings, food and transportation allowance, stationery and more. There are several determinants and factors that companies consider when providing discretionary benefits. If they decide that they will provide discretionary benefits, they also need to establish what types of benefits they can offer without compromising the financial situation of the company. In the United States, these employee benefits come in the form of relocation assistance, vision and dental plans, health care for dependents, pension plans, insurance, child care benefits, legal assistance, transportation benefits, discounts for shopping and resort accommodations, as well as wellness programs. There may also be fringe benefits offered to employees. If this is the case, such benefits may be excluded from the total annual income of the employee, which means greater savings on income tax. Fringe benefits also tend to be seen as a cost to the company for keeping their employees within the company. The Importance of Non-wage BenefitsIn the early twentieth century, employees were not given any benefits beyond their salaries. With the economic developments in the United States such as the Great Depression and the World War II, the government and labor unions worked together in brin ging about non-wage benefits for the workers. Non-wage benefits have grown in the past decades and now accounts for 30% of the total labor costs of This trend helped create a workplace and organizational culture that valued employees more and gave them what they needed (Marshall, 2003).Benefits given to employees are usually tax-deductible to the employer and are not taxable to employees. The exception would be the benefits for executives with access to benefits with very high amounts. In some cases, corporations in America may also offer the employee a set of benefits to choose from and the employee will choose which of the benefits will he avail of. This provides a flexible choice for the employee who may wish one type of benefit over another. The difficulty of implementing this, however, is that if employees chose different types of benefits, record-keeping would be more complicated. The benefits for employees may come in three forms (Martocchio, 2005).(1) One is the protection pr ograms, which helps employees be protected from any illness and ensure their physical and economic security.(2) Benefits may also fall under the pay for time not worked for, which includes vacation and sick leaves, as well as maternity and paternity leaves. Some companies even offer to pay the employees at the end of the year if they chose not to use up all of their leaves.(3) Lastly, there are also services, wherein the company offers to provide various services to the employees.Protection ProgramsThe income of employees is protected by the company in the form of disability insurance, life insurance and pension programs. Through this, the employees may feel economically secure and the assurance that part of the money provided by their employers is invested into their future. In case, they are declared as no longer fit to work, or that they may befall accidents directly or indirectly related to work and if they choose to retire, they are covered by the protection policies of the com pany.Health Protection is also an important aspect of protection programs. This may include health and dental insurance, enrolment into Health Maintenance Organizations or Preferred Provider Organizations, or self-funded plans. Pension plans are also important in ensuring the peace of mind of employees. This program is usually participated in by both employer and the employee. If and when the employee becomes unable to perform his or her job because of disability, the company cannot terminate his employment right away. Both short-term and long-term disabilities are considered by the employer (Martocchio, 2005).Health care programs for employees usually include fee-for-service, managed care, point of service and customer-driven health care. The cost of hospitalization is usually covered together with doctorââ¬â¢s fees, and other related expenses. If the employee pays own money, there is also a provision for reimbursement up to a certain amount. For some employers, HMOs may be a mo re or less costly approach because these are prepaid services. PPOââ¬â¢s are being used by other companies because there is no prepaid service and the company pays for the actual fees related to the health care of an employee. Furthermore, physicians, clinics and hospitals must meet quality standards for them to be recommended. The introduction of flexible benefits for the employees can lead to a higher level of job satisfaction, which can also help improve the productivity and efficiency of the company (Barber, Dunham & Formisano, 2006). When employees feel that they are cared for by the company they are serving, they tend to appreciate that and they will in turn do their best in performing their jobs (Belous, 1989).Paid Time OffAn important aspect of non-wage benefits now is providing paid time off to workers. This helps maintain work-life balance among employees because their domestic lives also have an impact to their performance of their jobs. If employees were too loyal to t heir jobs at the expense of their family, they might not be able to perform effectively. Stress would settle in and a previous high performer may crumble under the weight of such stress (Kossek & Lambert, 2005).The number of paid absences or leaves may be determined through the collective bargaining agreement between the labor union and management. When this has been settled, the employees then have to follow certain rules and procedures in the company to avail of this benefit. Pregnant women who want to give birth to their babies and nurse them are also given maternity leave of absence while a father whose wife is pregnant may also apply for a paternity leave. These schemes help communicate to the employee that their own personal lives are important too and that the company is not only after the services that they can render.Paid time off also helps the members of an organization to redefine themselves and their connection with the company and align their priorities and thoughts to the organization. Hence, it helps them take a break and think of what the work means to them (Ford & Locke, 2002). With a paid time off, the employees may have more time for themselves, for replenishing lost energies due to work and pause for a while and think about their jobs and how they can help contribute to the company for its growth and improvement.ServicesSome companies also realize that they need to provide services to employees so that they will not have to pay for such services outside of the company. As such, the company can choose to provide such services for the convenience of employees and minimal distractions to the way they perform their duties. These services may be in the form of family assistance programs, or the company can also assist in the education of an employee or the dependents of an employee. When moving and relocating, an organization may also bear the costs of moving, especially if such move is directly related to the job performed by the employee. Anot her popular service being offered by organizations is wellness program. The employees may enroll in a gym or a fitness class for free or for a discount courtesy of the organization.Such wellness programs can help ensure that the employees are physically fit. This can help prevent incidences of heart attacks, hypertension and stress-related sickness. In the long run, this can reduce the health care costs of an organization. What is needed, however, is strong implementation and encouragement for employees to participate in such wellness program (Gebhardt & Crump, 1990).The convenience that employees will experience through the services being offered by the company will contribute to efficiency and savings in time and resources. Employees will also generate a stronger appreciation for the company and will foster a stronger sense of company loyalty in employees.Laws and Legislations Concerning Employee BenefitsThere are three major legislations governing the benefits of employees and th e responsibilities of the employers: The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) of 1974; Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1985; and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).ERISA establishes the minimum standards and requirements of pension plans in the private sector. In addition to this, it also regulates the fringe benefits that employees receive such as disability insurance, medical and life insurance and most importantly, the pension of employees. The Act also monitors the reporting and disclosure of employers concerning such fringe benefits as well as the funding and fiduciary responsibilities of both employers and employees.COBRA, on the other hand, prescribes that health care coverage be extended to 36 months. However, the cost may be as high as 102% of the premium of the insurance. If employers do not comply with this, the law also prescribes the penalty. Companies with less 20 employees, however, are exempted from COBRA, together with the federal government and churches.Lastly, HIPAA guarantees the health coverage of all employees. Should there be pre-existing conditions, HIPAA prescribes appropriate action and handling. Health information and privacy are also important concerns; that is the reason why HIPAA regulates the transfer, the disclosure and the use of information given to health care practitioners for the purposes of health care delivery. HIPAA, however, has been a cause of contention regarding the responsible use of health care information (Wilson, 2006). Yet, it still helps ensure the protection of the rights of both employees and employers. These three legislations help define the rights of workers for their benefits and the responsibilities of employers to their employees. Non-compliance is punishable by the laws.ConclusionWith the increasing competition and globalization of the business environment, so will the needs and concerns of employees change. More and more demands and skills are needed. In addition to this, companies are hard put to retain their best employees because of the intense competition for excellent employees. As such, offering employee benefits will also change.Human resource personnel and the management need to device effective compensation and benefits scheme so as to attract the best and the brightest workers and retain the existing ones. The main concern, however, is making the employees secure physically and economically. If this were ensured, then they can perform their jobs better and they can contribute to the overall growth of the organization (Rosenbloom, 2001). By providing the three different types of benefits, employees can cultivate a deeper sense of company loyalty, which will redound to better employee retention and organizational performance. As the challenges of the workplace are addressed, the employers and the employee will enjoy better relationship and better organizational performance.
